Urgent Needs - Daily Bread

March/April 2009

Here’s an urgent need you can pray about and maybe help with …

Wow, this economy thing is really wreaking havoc on our support base for the children and preachers. Last month we had about 15% of our sponsors drop support of their sponsored children in Honduras and another 15% fell behind at least two months in giving their sup-port. That means a full 30% of the children are not being funded and somehow we are feeding them anyway. Now don’t let that give you the impression we are over funded, we are not, but the same God that filled the widow’s cup with oil and used one basket of food to feed thousands just happens to be the same God that we serve. And through all the years, He has not forgotten how to do what only He can do and to do it for those who trust in Him. We’ll keep passing out the fish and loaves and running back to Him for more until He tells us to stop.

What about the kids in India and Ghana? Well, we don’t have many in Ghana sponsored yet and those who are, are being faithfully cared for. The Indian orphans are as well, but still our two kitchens in India, which are feeding over 200 children (mostly non-orphans), seven days a week, still do not have a single sponsor! That’s over 1,400 meals a week and nearly 6,000 a month without a sponsor!

Nolin Nelms gives food to a crippled leper man provided from our Daily Bread program. That morning we gave the lep-ers more than 500 pounds of rice. (India, January 2009)
In a few months this “crisis” is going to turn around more than likely. At that time, whenever that time is, we will all have to sit down and reflect on how faithfully we “maintained” through the storm. Some have lost jobs and have had no choice but others have chosen to let a preacher or a child suffer rather than give up that Starbucks coffee, or whatever other luxury we cling to. Perhaps God is using this as a time of testing for us to see where our priorities really lay. I hope we can all surprise ourselves in a positive and faithful manner when we look back on this in years to come.

In the mean time, for those of you who have an abundance and want to share, can you consider taking on another preacher or child or perhaps a one time gift of $20 to buy a twenty pound bag of rice for our Daily Bread program that we can use to feed dozens of kids with? That would be such a blessing to you and to so many others.

What is a sponsorship?

I served as a police constable and accompanied the Secretary of State to a Baptist church service to visit the orphans cared for by the pastor and people of the church. During the service I accepted Jesus as my Savior and for that I was fired from my job.
